Frame freeze effect
Give your videos a dynamic and captivating style using the "freeze-frame" effect in PlayPlay! This tutorial shows you how to isolate a screenshot of a key moment, cut out the subject, and enhance it with a colored background and text elements—all before resuming the original video. It’s the perfect way to create a visual pause, introduce a speaker, highlight an expression, or draw attention to a product.
Here is the step-by-step method for creating a stylized freeze-frame :
Preparing the screenshot (outside of PlayPlay)
Open the original video file on your computer.
Pause the video at the exact moment you want to capture for the freeze-frame.
Take a screenshot of that specific instant.
Importing media into PlayPlay
In your PlayPlay project, open the Library and import both the full video and the screenshot you just captured.
Setting up the first video clip
Click "Add screen" and select the "Media" template.
Insert the full video and adjust the end point so that it stops exactly on the frame you captured.
Creating the static screen (freeze frame)
Add a new screen (e.g., "Question 1") that allows for a custom background.
Remove the default text, keeping only the colored background (or add a gradient/animated background).
In the "Elements" tab, add the screenshot as a media item, then scale it to fill the screen.
Click "Remove background" to isolate the subject and reveal the colored background.
Add graphic elements or text (e.g., the person's name and role) to enhance the visual pause.
Ensure the duration of this static screen is correctly adjusted on the timeline.
Resuming the original video
Duplicate the first screen (containing the original video).
Using the trimming tool, set this new clip to start exactly where the first part ended, ensuring a smooth transition with no visible break.
Finalization
Preview the complete three-part sequence (video, isolated freeze frame with text, and video resumption).
